After months of brainstorming and reflecting, I’ve excited to announce that I’ve finally pieced together my next long-term personal project–Love Stories.
Love Stories is a fragmented visual narrative embodying the limitless nature of love. An attempt to show the boundless shapes & power that this intimate force holds within all of our lives. Holding hands on the bus, laying together under the warmth of the sun to the caressing sounds of the ocean waving at your feet, playfully spending the evening with a homemade meal and wine by candlelight; all endless faces to this magical energy, love. It is the binding force, the connector, the link between I and everything else. It is sacred, it is nurturing, and it is the foundation for our souls.
Love, and its infinite forms; a simple premise, a lofty aim; all the makings for a moving series. A daunting undertaking of course, but that seems to be the source of my attraction, not a deterrant.
As for the nitty-gritty, the whole series will be shot on 35mm and medium format film. Who knows how long it will take to finish, maybe years, maybe a lifetime. Whatever it needs.
Key words for artistic direction: raw, genuine, diverse, connection, sharing, passion.
I can’t emphasize enough my intent for DIVERSITY in these stories of love. (eg gay, bi, poly, trans, non-binary and any other sexual or gender norms, mixed race couples, as well as the more traditional forms.)
Storyboard ideas off the top of my head:
- Elderly couple picnicking/swimming naked in the sound
- Two artist lovers spending the day in their studio
- Vintage-loving black and white couple playing around in ballard
- A couple laying together naked in bed after making love
- A Chinese couple enjoying a fancy dinner night at home
- A mixed race couple kissing in the rain
Of course these are just a few random examples from the infinite possibilities. Much of these stories will come from the couples who happen across this project, and are willing to participate.
